Weekly Bulletin

October 18, 2020

Welcome back in the name of the Risen Lord Jesus Christ. If you are visiting, we are glad that you are here and kindly ask that you sign our guest book at the sanctuary doors. If you would like to become a member please speak to the Pastor. In case of illness, the Pastor should be informed. He will always be glad to speak with those who are confronted with problems of a spiritual nature. The time before worship is a quiet time for prayer and meditation to prepare for worship. Please see the inside cover of the hymnal for prayers and page 329f to prepare for Holy Communion. Communicant members are asked to sign the communion book at the entrance of the church.

COVID 19 WORSHIP:   Welcome home everyone!  While we are here to rejoice in God’s house, we  still have to follow the rules for social distancing; wearing a mask and santitizing hands on your way in and out of church.  If you are wearing gloves, please dispose of them at home.  Please take your masks and bulletins home to limit exposure and the amount of recycling for the church.  We have masks for you to take home in case you have not brought them. Please wash and bring every Sunday.  A detailed description of worship guidelines is on the small table with the bulletin and offering plates. We are required to wear a mask on entering the church but once seated, if seating is compliant, may remove the mask in order to worship.

St. Luke, Evangelist

The book of Luke is a Gospel that contains Narrative History, Genealogy, Sermons, Parables, and some Prophetic Oracles. The emphasis of Luke is Parables and contains more of them than any other Gospel (19 total). It is the third of the synoptic gospels. Luke, a doctor and a Greek Christian, wrote it circa 59-61 A.D. He accompanied Paul on mission journeys, as described in the book of Acts, which Luke also wrote. The key word in Luke is "Son of Man" which is used 80 times.

The key personalities of the book include Jesus Christ, His parents Mary and Joseph, the Twelve Disciples, John the Baptist, Herod the Great, Jewish religious leaders, and Pilate.

This book was written to record an accurate account “so that you may know the exact truth” (1:4), of the life of Jesus Christ as the perfect Savior of the world. He wrote to the Greeks to present Jesus in His perfect manhood as the “Son of Man,” the Savior of all men.

Collect of the Day

Almighty God, our Father, Your blessed Son called Luke the physician to be an evangelist and physician of the soul.  Grant that the healing medicine of the Gospel and the Sacraments may put to flight the diseases of our souls that with willing hearts we may ever love and serve You; through Jesus Christ, Your Son, our Lord, who lives and reigns with You and the Holy Spirit, one God, now and forever.

LWML-CANADA SUNDAY MITE CHALLENGE 2020 - It has been several months of uncertainty with respect to meeting together as LWML societies. Due to the various restrictions on gatherings and procedures in our church, Mite Sunday will not be as we normally hold it. Instead below is a form/challenge which we can all take part in and continue to support our Mission Grants. I would ask all those who can, take part in this challenge. On October 18th, 2020 we have a separate basket at the entrance next to our offering basket and I would ask that any donations for your challenge/mite donations please place in Mite basket. The Lord has blessed us, so let us show our appreciation by giving what we can to Mites on this LWML Sunday. A copy of the challenge is on the table with the bulletins. . Praise God from whom all blessings flow. Blessings, Diana
